How to play demos
Quake 3
To play Quake 3 demos we recommend to download and install Demo Show Creator. If you have DSC installed and configured just open/unzip the file and double click on it to start the playback. Or if you want to do it the plain old way, you can place the demo in the demo folder for each MOD, i.e Quake3\OSP\demos for an OSP demo, and type demo demofilename in the Quake 3 console.
Counter-Strike
To play CS demos you need to install the correct Half-Life and Counter-Strike version to get the right protocol version for the specific demo. If you know the date when the demo was recorded you can easily find the correct versions in this chart. Download the patches from fileseaching.com. To start the demo you can either use Geekplay or DemoManager. Geekplay is simple and clean, while DemoManager is more advanced and harder to handle. After you have Geekplay or DemoManager installed and configured you can just open/unzip the file and double click on the .dem file to start the playback. Or you can place the file in the cstrike folder within you Half-Life folder and type playdemo demofilename in the console.
KingPin
Unzip the file and place the .dm2 file in Kingpin/Main/demos (create this directory if it doesn't exist). To start the demo, type map demoname and press return in the KingPin console.
Quake 2
To play Quak 2 demos is simliar to KingPin. Just unzip the .dm2 fil and place it in Quake2/baseq2/demos (as usual, create the directory if it doesn't exist.). To start the demo, type map demoname and press return in the Quake 2 console. |
